We are now into an early spring and the bermuda growth is kicking in. If the rains this weekend hold off, we will start aerifying tee tops, tee complexes, fairways and around greens on Monday. After aerification of these areas, they will be dragged and smoothed out with steel mats. Recovery should be quick and more growth will be stimulated by the process. Depending on the weather, we will complete the process as soon as possible and be out of your way.
The sewer project on #3 is nearing completion and should done in the next few weeks. As with everything else on the golf course, weather will be a factor.
We are three weeks past the greens aerifying and the healing in process is going well. The poa annua treatment program we are using, started late due to the cold winter conditions. The fourth week of the program is here and I am starting to see a little headway. If there is normal spring and early summer weather, there will be significant improvement in the control of the poa annua.
There has been significant rain fall in the past couple of months. This leads to an increase of cart path only days. I use my experience of the past several years at Cross Creek to determine cart path only situations. Believe it or not, this is my least favorite decision I have to make because it creates such a hardship on our golfers and cuts down on revenue. This also interferes with my day to day operations. We try to create the best playing conditions possible every day. When this is ignored, there is a disruption in the turf which may be seen for days or weeks. so please observe the cart path only times, sand your diviots in the fairways and repair your ball marks.
There is going to be a lot of good golfing weather and so come out and enjoy yourself.
