We are coming into another season and with the weather totally unpredicable, we are planning on a good year. Tree removal, drainage improvements and multiple projects in the works or planning stage are moving forward.
We have had two snow events so far and will have more. I would like to request, during these events, that everyone stay off the greens. There are plenty of areas to play on. I have enjoyed watching the sledders and wish I could join them.
The sewer project on #3 will begin at any time, weather permitting. We will keep the front nine open as much as possible. During ninety degree playing days, #3 will be changed to a par three with the tee markers moved to midway of the fairway. During wet periods, the front nine will be closed to protect the turf. This should only last three to four weeks. With a little luck, play will be back to normal in early March.
Projected aerification of the greens will be Mar.31st and Feb. 1st. We are going to do the same procedure we did last fall, smaller holes and less sand. With the tree removal executed so far, I am seeing a healthier stand of grass and believe we will see more improvement. As things stand right now, next season, there will be more light topdressings and small tine areification which will help prepare the greens for the summer stress. This will also help playing conditions and give us more consistant roll on the greens.
Those who have been playing this winter will notice the installation of sand refilling stations on all par threes. These can be used to refill your sand shakers for diviot repair on fairways and where ever you wish to use them. I hope this will make it convienent for you to help us keep the fairways in as good as condition as possible. There are many unattended diviots everywhere and hopefully, for your playing conditions, this will help. The sand placed in the diviots will speed-up the regrowth of these areas.
On #5, we have been sodding the area to the left of the cart path before you get to the green. Several trees have been removed and the rest of the trees have been limbed-up. There is now a better approach from the fairway to the green. A drain was installed along the cartpath to contain the water flow from the cart path, which will help keep the fairway in front of the green drier. A rope will be installed along this area until the work area has stabilized.
Along with more drainage work being done in front of the greens, there will be an intensive aerification in the approach areas and multiple topdressings to firm up these areas.
Better weather is around the corner and hope you can get a chance to enjoy the course.
Please repair your ball marks and enjoy the game.
